The Pill

Thematic Leadership Through a Gender Lens Curated by Chris Hegedus and Marie Wilson NEW DOCS

The story of how the birth control pill came into being, fueling the women’s movement and encouraging more open attitudes about sex. The film reveals the forgotten story of how two elderly and defiant women activists, Margaret Sanger and Katharine McCormick, forced the issue and engaged Gregory Pincus to do the research, and then paid his bills. It then turns to a new set of women activists as a backlash against the pill emerges and these women storm congressional hearings, fighting for control of their reproductive choices.
