Stories have the potential to make their readers feel seen. Seeing one’s identity or experience reflected in a book is powerful, and for young readers, libraries are often seen as safe spaces, sanctuaries where they have the opportunity to find themselves in the books on the shelves. Across the United States, battles are being waged over which books should be available in schools and public libraries. Local school boards present lists of dozens, in some cases hundreds, of titles identified for removal for reasons that often defy logical explanation. The Librarians dramatically documents professionals in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas who risk their careers, and in some cases their personal safety, to stand up against banning books. Director Kim A. Snyder masterfully assembles their individual stories, not only relaying the specific circumstances in each place but also synchronizing them into a rallying cry that spans state lines.  ST
