The Gospel According to Mr. Allen

Full Frame Audience Award Feature 2000

NEW DOCS

Absorbing and gritty, this documentary has plot, suspense and characters more compelling than any fiction film. Granted total access to a Harlem self-help drug abuse center, the filmmakers allow Mr. Allen, a saintly ex-addict who runs the center, and his staff and clients to tell their profound stories. Most notably, the film explores issues beyond how addiction affect the addicts—how those addictions also affect the families.
