The Brandon Teena Story

NEW DOCS

“Nebraska…the good life.” When 20-year-old Brandon arrived in rural Falls City, his handsome looks and boyish charm won him several friends in town and even a pretty girlfriend. But only three weeks later, on Christmas Eve, Brandon was brutally raped and beaten by two of his friends, who became enraged when they discovered that he was actually a woman. A week later, on New Year’s Eve, the same two men murdered “Teena Brandon” along with two others. The murder of these three people in Lincoln, Nebraska made international headlines, resulted in a New Yorker Magazine feature article, and inspired this documentary. Interviews with Brandon’s friends, lovers, family, and his convicted murderers are combined with film and still photographs to paint a bizarre picture of love and hate, tolerance and intolerance. Once again, documentary film demonstrates that truth is stranger than fiction.
