Forgetting Dad
NEW DOCS
When Richard Minnich was rear-ended in 1990, he emerged unscathed. One week later, he couldn’t remember a thing: not his wife, not his children, nothing. His family was devastated. Doctors were baffled; they could find absolutely no evidence of brain injury. Sixteen years later, his eldest son from his first marriage, filmmaker Rick Minnich, tries to solve the mystery of his father’s amnesia. In this personal detective story, Minnich and his co-director Matt Sweetwood retrace the events in the weeks leading up to and directly following Richard’s memory loss. Combining interviews with friends and family with medical evidence and the mining of personal letters, Minnich and Sweetwood try to answer the question no one can bring themselves to ask: did Richard really forget, or is it all a hoax?
