Bearing Witness

Invited

At a time when foreign journalists are increasingly considered “fair game,” more women than ever perform the dangerous work of the war correspondent. Bearing Witness deftly weaves the compelling portraits of five journalists on assignment in war zones. The film not only explores the great risks entailed in the work that these women do but also explains the appeal that the work has for them. In revealing interviews and inspiring verité footage, the film captures engaging moments in the careers and personal lives of these women. As its title suggests, the film directly addresses the professional duty of journalists and the ethical duty of human beings to bear witness to war and violent conflict. As one reporter asks on camera, “if not me, then who will tell the world what’s happened here?”  RH
