Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998, Anthony Weiner was someone who was compelled to say it how he saw it, and say it loud. And as the world now knows, Anthony Weiner was also someone who was compelled to send personal pictures through Twitter. Weiner picks up the story of the disgraced congressman as he announces his run for mayor of New York City in 2013, just two years after the scandal that led to his resignation.
What starts out as a vibrant comeback story soon gives way to further scandal as new sexting allegations come to light. With incredible access to the candidate, his family, and staff, filmmakers Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg go behind closed doors to capture the promising beginnings of his campaign and the triage when the story breaks. Remarkably, the cameras keep rolling as a media frenzy ensues, resulting in an up-close take on an all-too-familiar political parable.
