This Is Going to Be Big
Invited
In Bullengarook, Australia, a group of neurodivergent and disabled high students are putting on their biannual musical. This year, the story is a time-traveling epic about three students meeting three iterations of John Farnham, an Australian singer beloved especially for his 1986 rock anthem “You’re the Voice.” Following the students as they navigate home and school, the filmmakers move between their individual and collective lives, and the particularly embracing community of the school. For many, the musical provides a safe space to step out of their comfort zone and explore their own sense of possibility. Through nuanced and enthusiastic engagement, the filmmakers share a deeply engaging portrait of the students, their motivations, triumphs, and struggles. Buoyed by each other, their teachers, and their families, the students find their voice, loud and clear. TS
