Cinema Eye Honor Nominations Include 9 Full Frame Alums

Congratulations to all of the Full Frame alums nominated for Cinema Eye Honors this year!

The 2021 Full Frame Grand Jury award-winner, Faya Dayi, has been nominated for five awards, including Outstanding Nonfiction Feature and Outstanding Direction. Also nominated for multiple awards includes In the Same Breath, Homeroom, and City So Real.

Try Harder! and Fruits of Labor are both nominated for awards.

Short film alums nominated include Águilas and Three Songs for Benazir, the latter of which received the 2021 Full Frame Jury Award for Best Short.

My Name Is Pauli Murray, a Durham-audience favorite featuring local activist Pauli Murray and winner of the 2021 Kathleen Bryan Edwards Award for Human Rights, is honored in The Unforgettables, a non-competitive category.

As noted in IndieWire, “Historically, films nominated for Cinema Eye will often go on to other nominations and critics prizes. Over the last five years, 96 percent of the Oscar nominees for Best Documentary Feature were also Cinema Eye nominees and 88 percent of Oscar nominees received multiple Cinema Eye nominations, including all of last year’s Oscar-nominated documentaries.”

In addition to the nine festival alums nominated or honored, 2020 Garrett Scott Documentary Development Grant awardee Cusp was nominated for Outstanding Cinematography.

The Cinema Eye Honors is an annual event that recognizes outstanding artistry and craft in nonfiction filmmaking. The awards ceremony will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022.
